A housing association: from ambition to a funded programme

A housing association of around 8,000 homes knew where it wanted to get to but had no route its Board could fund. An architect-led assessment by our team became the sequenced plan the Board approved; over thirty-six months the programme stayed on the plan and the budget set at assessment. We worked alongside their team and ensured the capability to run it stayed in-house.

A national transport body: Claude inside its own controls

A senior leader at a national transport body needed the most capable AI available for a Board-level governance review, with 30+ hours of interviews to get through and consumer tools ruled out on data and audit grounds. Scout put Claude in place inside the organisation’s own environment, reviewable by Internal Audit from day one, and now runs it as a managed service, with the IT function the second team to join.

The AI Academy at a housing association

The housing association whose Board funded a three-year programme on the back of our teams’ assessment is building the skills to run it and to put AI to work across the organisation. The Academy began with a pilot cohort learning to use data and AI on their own repairs, arrears and customer-contact work, measured against a baseline taken in the first week and a benefit their Board signed up to, and the Board has backed taking it to the whole organisation.

A national research funder: data platform, national service, devices

Three strands of work for the body that funds the nation’s research. A secure research environment on AWS in which external researchers work with the funder’s data, build machine-learning models and layer on large language models, proven as a pilot and adopted as the standard model. Technology leadership and architecture oversight of the national research-assessment programme: a new architecture, a technical plan, engineering practices and a platform rebuilt on Azure, with the same team taking the submissions service to release on outcome-gated milestones. And an evidence-led plan for the organisation’s end-user devices, keeping the Windows 11 rollout moving while the future service model is decided.

A national environmental charity: one record of every school, site and volunteer

A national environmental charity runs award programmes, volunteering and environmental work on disconnected tools and spreadsheets. Scout was appointed to lead its digital change: discovery with every team, then a shared data foundation and a single award lifecycle first, with each programme configured on top, bilingual throughout.

A social media business: releases from weeks to minutes

A fast-growing social media business rewards ordinary customers for posting about the brands they love, and sells that reach to household names. Its platform had grown faster than any early-stage platform is built to. Scout rebuilt the technology, improved the delivery model and threaded AI through both, taking releases from weeks to every few minutes, halving technology operating costs and giving the business a platform that supports its growth at scale. Scout provides technology leadership as interim CTO, and runs the platform as an ongoing managed service.

A charity regulator: data platform and managed service

The regulator’s data platform underpins its public-facing services, including the public register of charities, and its regulatory reporting. Working as a blended team with the regulator’s own data people, Scout rebuilt and modernised the platform on Azure and Dynamics 365, then took on its full managed support with a named service manager, and added cyber risk and security engineering roles as the regulator’s confidence in the model grew.

Health · National

A national health digital body: AI for vaccination cohorts, clinically governed

For the national digital body of a health service, working out who should be called for vaccination, and in what order, was a population-scale task done largely by hand. Scout built and took live a supervised machine-learning service that identifies vaccination cohorts across the population in a fraction of the previous time, with every output explainable for clinical review and an accuracy threshold agreed with clinical governance before anything went live.

A national justice department: one data model across 12+ systems

Delivered for a national justice department by the team that went on to found Scout, at the firm Scout’s founder built and led as CTO. Judicial information was spread across more than a dozen legacy systems with overlapping definitions. A team of six consolidated them into a single canonical data model as the authoritative integration layer, run as a security-cleared, ITIL-aligned service around the clock.
